"Enjoy the journey and look forward to feeling fitter"

Published on 9th Jun, 2022

John Collins had watched his weight creep up after quitting smoking 15 years ago until he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He found the Low Carb Program through Diabetes.co.uk and has since lost 19kg and reduced his diabetes medication.

John shares more about his story: "I’d always been thin until I gave up smoking 15 years ago, then the weight started to pile on. I went to the doctors and a blood test came back that I had type 2 diabetes. I then looked at the Diabetes.co.uk website and it was through that that I found the Low Carb Program and decided to follow a low carb diet."

From using the Low Carb Program John shares "I’ve lost 19kg (3st) in total. I weigh around 89kg (14st) now, but my aim is to get down to 76.2kg (12st). I went to the doctors for a review 5-6 weeks ago and my medication was reduced, I was getting a lot of aches and pains on metformin. My energy levels have increased too, and I stopped taking Rennie’s for acid reflux."

John's top tips for someone starting out on low carb are: It’s quite simple, you have to stay focused and if you can, try and get your partner and family involved. Try and have people around you who will support you and not encourage you to give into unhealthy habits. Follow the diet plan, enjoy the journey and look forward to feeling fitter.
